Davis Drive, Arlington. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Vince was born in Portland, Ore., on June 7, 1936, to George and Cecelia Apilado. Dr. Apilado had a love of music, especially the violin. He was offered a full scholarship to The Juilliard School but instead chose to pursue his passion in business and finance. Dr. Apilado received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1970. He was a well-respected professor at Arizona State University and chairman of finance and real estate at the University of Texas at Arlington. In 2006, he was inducted into The Academy of Distinguished Teachers at UT-Arlington, which is comprised of tenured faculty who have been selected for their outstanding teaching, personal commitment to students and the learning process, and the ability to inspire and motivate students. Vince retired from full-time teaching in May 2010. He was a published author in many business journals and worked with numerous attorneys as an expert witness. Vince loved his family more than life itself. He was an avid racquetball player and enjoyed coaching his children in various sports. Vince was a devout Catholic and an active parishioner at St. Vincent de Paul in Arlington. We will carry his memory forever in our hearts. Survivors: Wife of 42 years, Elsa Apilado; sons, Dr. Paul Apilado (Jeannette) and Steven Apilado; and daughters, Dawn Policht (Jeff), Rae Hebert and Maya Burgess (Tony). Vince was a loving grandfather to Jeremy Policht, Morgan Hebert, Madison and Milania Apilado, and TJ and Mason Burgess.

Vince and I were classmates and best friends in grade school and the University of Portland. He absolutely brought out the best in me. He was he an outstanding student and athlete. He pushed me well beyond what I believed I could do and I am so thankful today. God bless the soul of such a special person.

Doctor Apilado was larger than life to me as a child. He seemed stronger than a superhero. As an adult, I see how he was human but it's obvious he lead by example. He was the model of discipline, hard work, and stability. Doctor Apilado could also be surprisingly funny and tolerant. He was efficient in sharing his wisdom which definitely kept you wanting more and he could astound you with his intelligence which also kept you wanting more. I can still see him in perfect posture in front of the TV or behind the wheel of his old Mercedes. I can still see him "slowly" growing impatient with the bombardment of questions from Paul, Stevie, and myself. I will never stop treasuring those memories and more than anything I will always remember how he treated me like a son and because of this and more, he is still larger than life in my heart.

Dr. Apilado was the father of my best friend growing up. Ill never forget our early morning talks across the kitchen or his advice. We were early risers. He loved and protected his family fiercely. He guided me through elementary, junior high, highschool and eventually important college education decisions more than I ever realized or shared. I watched him raise his family in Arlington and learned via my own dad and Vince what to expect of a dad. All my love forever ::Lauren::

We miss Vince. He was such an impressive individual: highly intelligent, accomplished, athletic, and kind. I remember my surprise at learning he was a state racquetball champion. I did not know he was a gifted musician. It was an honor to be his friend and neighbor.

My son asked me if I remembered any of my college professors. I said "yes, Dr. Apilado!" After a quick google search, I learned of his death only today. What an incredible teacher he was. I remember his love of finance and his way of teaching. You were sure to learn the material. What a classy man, too.
Im sure his family, friends and colleagues miss his presence.

Dr. Apilado was the best professor I had in college. His consistency, intentionality and genuine care for each of his students was outstanding. Work ethic was a big theme Vince brought to my young life.
May God bless his soul.
