Sapone, William
William John Sapone, age 61, of Southport, husband of Mary Guerrera, the Executive Director of Fellowship Place Inc., passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Born in Waterbury to the late John and Domenica Calabro Sapone, Bill was a longtime resident of Southport. A 1972 graduate of Holy Cross High School in Waterbury, Bill went on to further his education by earning a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from UMass-Lowell and later, his law degree from Pace University. He was a partner in the law firm of Ware, Fressola, Maguire & Barber LLP. A man of service, Bill spent a lot of his time trying to make his community a better place. He was active in the Democratic Town Committee and numerous town boards. Bill was the Chair of the Fairfield Woods Building Committee, a member of the Penfield Beach Pavilion Committee, the Greater Bridgeport Bar, Connecticut Patent Bar Association, and the Saugatuck Rowing Club. In addition to his loving wife, Mary, Bill is survived by his two sons, Max Guerrera-Sapone, a senior at Brown University and James Guerrera-Sapone, a senior at Fairfield Prep; three siblings, Linda Interlande, and her husband, David, of Southington, Anthony Sapone, of Waterbury, and Thomas Sapone, of Waterbury; a niece, Erika Interlande Potkay, and her husband, Peter, of Portland; a nephew, Jason Interlande, and his wife, Sarah, of Southington; and brother-in-law, William "Bill" Guerrera, of Newton, MA. Bill loved to read and garden, but most of all, he loved relaxing at the beach and rowing on Long Island Sound. He tinkered with old cars and listened to jazz music and radio classics from the 30's, 40's, and 50's. He was a dedicated father and loving husband, who will be greatly missed by his family. A private funeral Mass will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Holy Cross High School, 587 Oronoke Rd, Waterbury, CT 06708 or Fellowship Place Inc., 441 Elm Street, New Haven, CT 06511. Mary, Max and James,
I am sure there are no words that will console you at the loss of your husband and father; but knowing that everyone in the community who knew him knows what a good, kind, honorable and dedicated man Bill was, will hopefully provide you with some sense of deep community support throughout your mourning. It is a loss shared by many.

I've known Bill ever since I joined the Fairfield DTC ten years ago, such a wonderful person with a big heart who was a friend to us, and served the Town of Fairfield well. He was always so nice to me, offering encouragement & hope when I lost my job in 2010, to again when I started working again in 2013, to when I won my first election to the RTM in 2011. I will never forget him. My condolences to all during this difficult time.
