Born March 27, 1965, passed peacefully into light on the afternoon of May 15, 2013. Mark was born in Greene County, Ohio and traveled with his Air Force family across the United States and to Okinawa, Japan. Upon his return to the Sacramento, he began his formative education in the San Juan Unified School District, from which he graduated in June, 1983. Mark then continued his education and, ultimately, graduated from CSU, Sacramento (BA-1988) and The Ohio State University (MA-1990) and (PhD-1995.). After obtaining his degrees, Mark was hired by GATX to manage internal and external communications for the company. He was first located in San Francisco, CA and was then transferred to Chicago, IL. where he was first diagnosed with the brain cancer that eventually took his life. Mark and a series of competent and caring medical teams "danced" with his cancer for six years before that "dance" ended. Mark is survived by his father, Ronald James Winchester; his mother, Carolyn Perry; his "second dad," Ted Perry; siblings Eric John Winchester, Aaron Dan Winchester, Laura Lynn Winchester Morrison, and their families. Mark is also survived by a wide circle of "chosen family" and friends. See his Facebook page. Celebrations of Mark's life will be held in both Oakland, Ca and Sacramento. Those persons wishing to participate are invited to attend. The first will be held in Oakland on Saturday, June 1st at 1501 Madison St # 106, Oakland, Mark's apartment, from 4-6 PM. The Sacramento event will be on the next Saturday, June 8th at 11251 Crocker Grove Lane, Gold River, CA 95670, Mark's mom's home, also from 4-6 PM. Please RSVP for either event to [email protected], or to (916) 858-1446. Persons who are unable to attend either of these celebrations are encouraged to do something joyous in remembrance of Mark.
