Richard Atkins Obituary

CONVERSE - Richard Lee Atkins was called to heaven Saturday, July 14, 2018. He was born in El Paso, Texas on November 20, 1957, the son of Arthur and Gissele Atkins, who later relocated to Odessa, Texas. He was preceded in death by both parents, and is survived by his sister, Renee Claire, nephew, Kristopher Keesee. and great nephew, Dillon Magee. Though Richard never married, he loved the life he had built and enjoyed it to the fullest daily. Those of you who were honored to know Richard, knew that friendship would be like no other. He was rock solid, devoted to family values and a man of faith. He wore His servant heart on his sleeve. Richard was a smart man, and attended Odessa College, majoring in petroleum engineering.

He moved to Corpus Christi, TX in 2002 to open a branch of the Zubie Wear Screen Printing Company. Because of his compassion and willingness to help others, Richard was quickly asked to join the board of many non-profit groups. He mostly loved the USO's mission and supported it whole heartedly. Richard was diligent, hardworking and an extremely active member of society. He never hesitated to help anyone at anytime, and if he couldn't do it, he always knew someone who could through his broad network of friends and "brothers". Richard then moved to San Antonio, TX to assume larger responsibilities as Zubie Wear's General Manager.

Richard loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and rode one as far back as anyone can remember. He accumulated more true friends than humanly possible, with those friendships spread across the entire United States and Canada. To know Richard was to love him, his closest family and friends all describe his as "The Protector" and "The most Loyal Man they know". Richard was a man of purpose and completed anything he ever started. The word "quit" was simply not a part of his DNA.

He looked after his sister like a big brother would, but always went that extra mile to make sure she knew he was her rock (but not a shoulder to cry on). He was efficient and organized to a fault, labeled by his sister as an "Organized Hoarder". He had everything imaginable in his possession that anyone could possibly ever need, and then 3 or 4 more of each, for "just in case". He loved to hunt, eat, ride his motorcycle and Beano, who preceded him in death. Renee loved her brother and couldn't have been more proud of how he had successfully turned his life completely around. He was a selfless man, with an unbelievable entourage and a wicked sense of humor. He will be missed by so many, an amazing brother, a man of faith, never-ever to be forgotten.

He joined the Discovery Church in Cibolo, TX several years ago where he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. Richard maintained his faithfulness in his walk with God and loved his church. He was committed to what he believed in and that is evident in his walk as a Believer and is now serving and worshiping the Lord.

Celebration of life will be held at Discovery Life Church, 242 Country Lane, Cibolo, Tx. 78108, on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the church: www.discoverylife.org.

As you remember your love one, as God heals your broken hearts (Psalm 147:3), may your treasured memories continue to bring you peace, comfort, and strength to endure.

May the God of all comfort strengthen the family during this time of mourning. Those who are precious to us, God keeps in his memory because they are precious in his eyes as well. My sincerest condolences. (Psalms 116:15)
