Resident of Los Altos
PAUL L. BJORK, of Los Altos California, suffered sudden cardiac arrest on Sunday morning March 8, 2015 while exercising. He will be greatly missed by the children he loved dearly: Stephanie, 12; Kevin, 11; and Rami, 8.
He also leaves behind loving parents Carla and Larry Bjork of Los Altos; sister and brother-in-law Kristie and Blair Ewen of Redding, CA; and former spouse Rana Khaled of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Paul will also be missed by a large extended family including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many beloved friends and colleagues.

Dear Stephanie, Kevin and Rami-
One week ago was the memorial service for your dad. It was a good service, though I bet pretty overwhelming for you. In the middle of the part where people shared stories about Paul, I was sorry that I had not thought to ask about speaking. The people that spoke were family and work friends that clearly loved your dad. You should definitely remember that your dad was well loved. There was a gap in the story though, missing among all the genuine and heartfelt speeches. This was represented by about a dozen people in the audience, all about 45 years old.
We were your dad's friends from his school days. From Montclaire elementary school to Cupertino Jr High, all the way to Homestead High School, we all knew your dad many years ago, before he could even imagine having 3 wonderful kids of his own. We all wanted to come say goodbye to a good guy we knew a long time ago, even if most of us hadn't talked to him in years.
The messages you heard from the family and co-workers were wonderful and important, and I hope you can remember them later in life. To know that he was loved everyday will be comforting when little details fade and most of what you have is photos and little videos and your own memories.
The message I would give you from all of his school friends (if they let me represent them and the many who could not make it) is this: Your dad was a kid once too.
You guys are of the age now when a lot of us met your dad for the first time. I know from experience that it can be hard to imagine all those photographs that you see of your dad's life had real life experiences behind them, but they did. We sat in class with your dad, we swam with him, we played cards with him, and watched sports with him. We competed with him and cheered him on when he represented our schools as a Tiger or Bear or Mustang, in the sports he loved. Whatever you love doing, your dad had a lot of the same experiences that you are having today and you will have in the years to come.
If you can, whenever you read this, today or years from now, you should know and try to remember that he was a kid once. He had fun, he was sad, he was happy, he got stressed out about school, he tried things and failed just as much or more than he tried things and succeeded. Your dad made mistakes, like everyone does, but he also made a lot of great choices. If he could, I bet he would tell you that all the choices he made that led him to you three were the best ones, no matter what they felt like at the time. I talked to him a few months ago and it was clear that everything he was doing was somehow for you three. You are what mattered most.
Your dad made friends that he kept for years and years and he made friends that kept up less. You will do the same throughout your life. People come and people go but, since you are probably something like your dad, you will be loved by a lot of people. None of that will be the same as the love your dad had for you, but it will have to do.
We all wish we could have a last chance to talk to the people we lose. I guess this is my way of doing that, by talking to you. Remember your dad well, as I know you will and remember that we are glad to have known him as a kid.

I'm so saddened to hear about Paul's passing. I have known Paul since junior high, and we were close for many years growing up. We were both in the band (he was one of the non-geeky guys along with me), and we both played polo. After high school, we both worked together at Los Altos Golf & Country Club ... He was the pool manager and I was the head swim coach. He was such a good guy. Funny, respectful, honest and caring. My heart goes out to his kids and his whole family. You will be missed, Paul.

I have worked with Paul for the past year and he will be sorely missed. My admiration for Paul extends in many ways. He was a true professional in our industry, his world revolved around his children and he is and was one of the truly most genuine people I've ever met. He will be dearly missed by so many.

My thoughts and prayers to Paul and his family. I went to school with Paul through Junior High and High School. We did not know each other too well. I did say hi to him whenever I saw him. HHS Class of 88 forever.

We have never met but Paul went through Cupertino and Homestead High with our sons, David and Jon. The last time we saw Paul was at David's wedding in 2000. Our hearts ache for you in your devastating loss and our thoughts and prayers are with you and your grandchildren.

Paul, I only knew you via LinkedIn over the past few years, but you represented both HHS '88 and Cal Poly '93 to the finest degree anyone could and I am proud to say I knew you and hung out with you at both. PS: and don't tell Joe - but I still think you were a better water polo player than Joe Thomas!
Miss you brother...
