Dear Sister Hardy,

I just learned of the passing of your good husband, my Patriarch, and my favorite Sunday School teacher.
What a privilege it was to know him, be taught by him, receive my Patriarchal blessing from him, and see him live what he taught. I always new Sunday School would not be boring. He rarely looked at the manual and just taught by the Spirit. He knew us and what we needed to hear.
Your entire family was a blessing to our ward/stake as a whole and to my family growing up. I have only good memories of interacting with your family in your home and at church and other activities. I remember you were a great cook, speaker, teacher, singer, and mother and wife. I never saw you or your husband ever get angry and perhaps not even raise your voice. Your children were awesome and I am sure they still are. Many fun times with Rebecca and your other children and kids in the ward.
May the Father's comforting Spirit be with each one of you more abundantly at this time. I thank you for your love in serving and being such a blessing in my life many years ago along with your dear husband.

Sister Hardy & Family: Ila and I were saddened to learn of "Brent's" passing. Our time with the two of you when you were serving as President and Matron of the Hong Kong temple stands as one of the finest experiences of our lives. We doubt that anyone has ever had a finer personal tour of Hong Kong and environs than the one you two took our Area Presidency on. Brent was a giant in every way. His jovial good natured personality simply lifed everyone up in a very unique way. He will be missed greatly. Our love and condolences. Cree and Ila Kofford

Dear Elaine,

Our thoughts and prayers are for you at this time that the sweet peace of the Comforter may be your abiding blessing.

We loved our visits to the Hong Kong Temple where you greeted us with graciousness and warmth. Certainly your faithful leadership added to the spirit of that sacred edifice.

We treasure dinners together and having you share insights about temple work in Hong Kong and choice experiences that have been yours in Asia over the years.

Then coincidentally our paths crossed in Beijing and once again our visit was enhanced by your comments and insights.

Our thanks to you and Brent for the example and influence of your dedication to the work of the Lord and the strength of your testimonies in our lives.

Brent has touched our family in significant ways.

Jill and I each received our Patriarchal blessings from him, as did two of our children. He sealed our two married children to their eternal companions in the Las Vegas Temple. He was my Sunday School teacher. I remember when Truman Madsen (a good friend of his) would visit and teach us as well on those Sundays when he would visit the Hardys. I would love to go back in time to attend just one of those classes, now that I'm old enough to realize how much more I should have paid attention in class!

Our family is so grateful for such a loving man of God. Our deepest sympathy to the family.

Sister Hardy and family members:

I was shocked when I saw this obituary. It was just 2 weeks ago that I drove down to Las Vegas to meet with you about your husband's (father's) records. I am wondering if he had a premonition and wanted to be sure his historically significant records were safe in the Church Archives.

My thoughts go out to the family. I am glad President Hardy is no longer confined by that wheelchair or his ailing body. It was my privilege to know him!

Dear Sister Hardy and Family, The influence President Hardy had on so many missionaries has been felt for many, many years. I am a better person for having had this association. I have always felt blessed to be a "Taiwan Missionary" of Pres. Hardy. May the Lord comfort you in the loss of this great man.

President Hardy had a powerful influence on my life. Growing up in an inactive family, I did not have much guidance on how a priesthood holder should act. Much of what I am today came learning at his feet. My Condolences to Sister Hardy and her family.

A noble man of the highest character is lost to those of us left behind. But his example of righteous living and honesty in business and government are examples that are not often available in leaders today. He always looked for the good in others and tried to make the world a better place. You succeeded Brent Hardy in making this world a better place and you always gave us a glimpse of Heaven. Your legacy is one to admire and strive to emulate. I always thought that I was Jana's (my wife) hero but it really was you all along. A testimony burns in her heart because of you. I'll miss you but will be able to see glimpses of you in your children. God bless you Sis. Hardy.

In 1969 as a young president of the Southern Far East Mission of the LDS Church, Brent Hardy laid much of the ground word for the dedication and beginning of missionary work in Indonesia. His journal entries--that he willingly shared with me-- from that time have been a great help in writing the chapter about the establishment of the LDS Church in Indonesia. Hats off to a great man.

For years all Volvo owners in Las Vegas knew to take their cars to Hardy Brothers in North Las Vegas for the best, most reliable service in the valley. Warren used to loan me his wife's Peugot if they needed to keep my Volvo overnight. John Bowers (Las Vegas)
