Lee Cox Obituary

Lee Cox 'Singing Banker' passed away at 64.
Lee Sherman Cox, business development manager for The Exchange Bank of Alabama, spent most days visiting bank clients in his community. By night, Cox, a professional jazz musician, could be found entertaining on Broad Street or singing Sinatra with the local big band, The Kings of Swing. Known as the "Singing Banker", Lee Cox passed away at 64.
Each Friday afternoon, you could find Cox loading up his car with prepared meals and his guitar, getting ready to head out and deliver lunch and music to elderly shut ins, or his "Manna Buddies" as he preferred to call them. Cox spent his lunch hour each Friday as a Manna Volunteer, playing a song, saying a prayer and delivering a meal. He served as a board member for the Boys and Girls Club of Alabama. He served with United Way and was awarded the Loaned Executive of the year.
Lee Cox of Cox Gap, son of Elmus "Red" and Josephine Cox grew up in Falls Church, Virginia where his father was the Administrative Assistant for Congressman Albert Rains. Cox was a 1986 graduate of Asbury University, Wilmore, Kentucky. After receiving his Masters Degree in Public Policy from Regent University, Cox served as Legislative Aide to Senator Howell Heflin from 1989-92.
In 1992, Cox brought his family to live on the family estate, Cox Gap, to care for his mother after his father's passing.
Cox is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Jo Gielarowski; their five children, Lesley, Levi, Ashley, Emily Jo and Georgialee; and grandson, Ashton Lee.
A memorial service will be held at Catalyst Community Church on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 2 p.m., 1707 Reid Circle, Gadsden AL 35903.
