Jay Richard Miller April 16, 1921 May 3, 2017 Jay Richard Miller, 96, of 3741 Miller Road, Petersburg passed away at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College Born on April 16, 1921, in McAlevy's Fort, he was the son of the late Dr. Henry E. Miller and Jesse L. (Bigelow) Miller. He was married to Oneta J. (Goss) Miller and Edith A. (Henry) Miller, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by children, Jay R. Miller, Jr., Sharon Eileen Miller, Pamela J. Bothe, Sherman Keith Goss, Gary M. Goss, Kevin W. Goss, Janene L. Reiter, and Kathy L. Ciccarelli; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family and was preceded in death by sisters, Barbara Miller, Hilda Stricker, Marie Yocum, Mary Ellen Laub, Beatrice Miller, and Elizabeth Miller; and brothers, Bill Miller, Bob Miller, Joe Miller, Ben Miller, Gerald Miller and Samuel Miller. Jay was a 1939 graduate of Belleville High School. He served in the United States Navy during WWII as a coxswain until he was honorably discharged in 1946. He retired in 1982, as plant superintendent at Sutton Engineering in Bellefonte. He was a member of the VFW Post 5935, Belleville for 51 years. He was a christian man and was Lutheran by faith. Through the years he enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending time at the Early Bird Camp, hosting hunting camp at his home, woodworking, and entertaining friends and family. His memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2017, at Locust Grove Mennonite Church in Belleville with Pastors Max Zook and Ivan Yoder officiating. His family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville. Arrangements are under the care of Henderson Funeral Home, Inc., 3813 West Main Street, Belleville, PA 17004.
