Patricia Dando Obituary

Patricia M. Dando
June 1, 1946 - July 16, 2017
Resident of San Jose
Pat Dando passed away peacefully on July 16, 2017. Pat was born on June 1, 1946 in Vernon, Texas and was raised in Killeen, Texas by her single mother Julia Stout and her five protective uncles (the Shafer brothers) Arnold, Win, Dan, Tuney and JC. Pat graduated from Killeen High School in 1964 and then attended North Texas State University. She earned a double major in Elementary Education and English.
In 1967, she married Bob Dando and moved to Schenectady, NY where she began her career as a school teacher and also started her family with the birth of Lesa (1969), Kyle (1972), and Todd (1975). The Dando family relocated to San Jose CA in 1973 where Pat became fully focused on family life. Pat volunteered her time as softball manager, scout leader, vacation Bible School teacher and PTA President. She became a strong advocate to improve local schools and support her community which included co-founding the Almaden Valley Youth Counseling Center and the Almaden Valley Art and Wine Festival.
Pat had an impactful career focused on serving the people of San Jose. In 1986, she began work in Mayor Tom McEnery's office, she helped lead the campaign to get a new sports arena built in downtown San Jose, and she worked for the San Jose Redevelopment Agency. In 1995, Pat was elected to the San Jose City Council representing District 10 and was later appointed Vice Mayor of San Jose. In 2002, she co-founded the Stroke Awareness Foundation. Pat served as the Director of Local Government Affairs for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger before being appointed CEO of the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce in 2005. She enjoyed working and was blessed with a rewarding career, but in 2011 decided it was time to slow down and enjoy retirement.
Pat had a passion for history, the arts and travel. She was a great story teller - sharing personal tales and history with her children and grandchildren to teach them of their heritage. Pat spent the last several years enjoying time with close friends, playing bridge and golf, engaging in discussions with her book club, and traveling to China, Europe, and other great destinations with her husband Bob. They spent a lot of time with their three children and nine grandchildren. Pat never missed sending a birthday card, an anniversary card or a holiday care package for her circle of sixteen family members. She was always supportive, always present and always involved in their lives.
Pat will be forever missed and forever remembered. Pat is survived by her loving family: husband Bob Dando; children and their spouses Lesa and Tom Triolo, Kyle and Leanna Dando, and Todd and Erin Dando; and beloved grandchildren Brent, Jared, Trey, Hannah, Freeman, Julia, Odessa, Shafer, and Izara.
A celebration of life will be held on August 20th at Cinnabar Hills Golf Club, with the Memorial Ceremony beginning at 5pm, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to the Stroke Awareness Foundation or Cancer CAREpoint.

Rest in Peace Pat. Yes, we had our differences, but in the end, on the golf course, and at the Chamber Board meetings, and at so many Stroke Awareness functions, we were friends and gracious. That was your style and way. Barbara and I will miss seeing you.
