CHASE (Garson Howard Kunian), Joy Surrounded by loving family and friends, Joy (Garson Howard Kunian) Chase, 92 years old, passed away in her sleep on June 5, 2016. A lifetime resident of Atlanta, Joy was born May 13, 1924, the youngest of Frank and Gussie Garson's three children. She married Bernard Howard, Dec 3, 1943 and was blessed with four children: Jackie, Gary, Neal and Clark. Joy and Bernie were married until his passing in 1989. Joy had a love for her friends, travel and serving the Atlanta Jewish community. She was the first (and only) woman president of the Atlanta Jewish Home for the Aged and helped to organize and found the Temple Couples Shelter in 1984. Widowed in her mid-60's, Joy went on to find love two more times--with her 2nd husband, Sunny Kunian in 1994 (until his death in 1997) and her 3rd husband, Art Chase in 2009 (until his death in 2011). Joy was also preceded in death by her mother, father and brothers, Arthur and Dan Garson. Her sister-in-law Charlotte Garson, survives her. Until her last day, Joy lived a blissfully happy life with a positive attitude and smile on her face. She truly lived up to her name. Joy is survived by her four loving children: Jackie, Gary, Neil and Clark Howard; 10 grandchildren: Adam, Miles, Heather, Samantha, Ross, Todd, David, Rebecca, Stephanie and Grant; and 13 great grand children: Jacob, Zack, Danielle, Erin, Gabe, Morgan, Allison, Sloane, Rachel, Simone, Sydney, Gillian, and Jonathan. Per her wishes, Joy was cremated. A memorial service is being held for family and friends at The Temple on Peachtree Street on Tuesday, June 7 at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the William Breman Jewish Home "Bernard Howard Memorial Fund" in her honor or to the charity of your choice. As she always said, "it doesn't matter where you give, just give."

I almost feel like you are part of my Family. You have taught me so much.

To Jackie & all the family, it's sad to see she's gone. I'd often hoped to get back to Atlanta & hear that wonderful Old South accent of hers one more time!
I have fun memories of her from my Fitz & Floyd years in Atlanta '88-'93. Like watching the marathon from the balcony of her gorgeous condo on Peachtree Street. And the time she went whitewater river rafting with us on the Ocoee River. Todd was with us & she acted just as gleeful & young as he was! Jackie she greeted your friends just like we were another daughter. God bless her. And all of you! Love, Jan Bentley

I worked with Joy for many, many years at the travel agency. Always cheery and always kind and generous. She graciously hosted my parents for cocktails on a visit and made them feel like old friends, I will never forget that. Will miss her sparkle as I know all of her family and friends will.

A beautiful woman living an extraordinary life embracing the gifts and blessings from above. First Peter 4:10: "As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God."
May we all walk through life with open-handed generosity and true joy.
In the darker days ahead, I wish peace for the Howard Family.
