Cynthia O'Malley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 31, 2016.

Cynthia L. (Cindy) O'Malley
On Wednesday morning, March 30, 2016, Cynthia (Cindy) O'Malley gently and peacefully passed away from those who loved her after a fifteen year battle with cancer. Cindy was born on October 19, 1959 in Austin, Texas and graduated from L. C. Anderson High School. She graduated from Northern Michigan University and did post graduate studies at the University of Maryland. Cindy was Legislative Director for Congressman Robert Davis of Michigan and professional staff for the House Armed Services Committee. She worked at the Department of Energy Office of Defense Programs prior to joining K&L Gates as a government affairs counselor.
Cindy is survived by her husband Brian and children Thomas and Mary Grace; her beloved sister Catherine and her husband William Smart, their children Anne, Stephen, Andrew, Scott and his wife Mary; father Paul Roland; mother Norma Roland; brother Jon Roland and several nieces and nephews.
Cindy's extended family in Michigan included her dear mother in law Mary Connolly O'Malley who preceded Cindy in death by four days; Raymond O'Malley and Patti Hoerner, and their daughter Molly; and Thomas and Barb O'Malley. Cindy also greatly cherished Barb O'Malley's sisters: Cathy, Marcella, Marlene, and their families.
Cindy showered love on so many and made us all better people just by knowing her. Services have been scheduled for 11am on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Arlington. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution to either American Cancer Society or the Girls & Boys Club-Camp O'Malley in Grand Rapids, MI.

This saddens me so. My mom died of breast cancer in June. She had fought for 19 years. I had several discussions with Cindy about my mom when I found out that Cindy had breast cancer. I didn't realize Cindy's battle was 15 years. At least she is at peace now. Prayers for her family. It's tough to lose a mother, no matter how old you are.

I worked with Cindy at Preston Gates for six years and sat almost across from her for that length of time. She was a gem of a colleague, a gentle and beautiful spirit, and I so saddened to know of this lengthy battle she fought so bravely to the point I didn't even know. Rest well, Cindy. No more pain and suffering. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. May God send you His peace and comfort.

Cindy was one of the strongest people I have ever known, when her struggles were hard she still smiled and remained positive. I will always cherish memories of her friendship for she was filled with a beautiful spirit and generous heart. Prayers to all of her family. She loved sharing the beautiful memories she captured in her family scrapbooks with all of her "Crop" friends. We love her, we will miss her always.

I met Cindy many years ago and I found her to be a wonderful and beautiful person. She was always speaking of her children and how she enjoyed them so much. I am so sorry for your loss. Heaven gained an angel.

I will miss Cindy so very much. I am so very sorry for your loss. She was a wonderful woman, and I will never forget the kindness she showed me during Larry's illness and death. She always sent the best Christmas presents. I do wish I knew what I might do to help, but I know that you are all surrounded by many friends and family members. I am honored to be named as one she loved. I am hoping to come to DC this summer and perhaps be able to bring one or both of the girls. We will pray for you, and you will be on our minds as you say good bye to your wonderful mother and wife.
